Volunteer Corner

Volunteers provide friendly assistance to patients and visitors by:
  • Filling a public relations role in greeting and directing people
  • Selling candy and craft items
Volunteer displays shop handicrafts

Support Services

Volunteers provide clerical support such as:
  • Photocopying, filing, sorting mail, and general office tasks

Medical Library

Volunteers assist the librarian in the day-to-day operation of the library by:
  • Photocopying articles
  • Shelving books and journals
  • Preparing library cards

Couriers/Patient Guides

Volunteer Couriers and Patient Guides assist staff in providing timely treatment to patients. Their duties include:
  • Pick up and delivery of charts, X-rays, blood samples, and requisitions to various locations within CancerCare and the Health Sciences Centre
  • Accompany patients to clinics, using a wheelchair when required
  • Provide a friendly, visible presence in the entrance of CancerCare Manitoba
  • Provide direction as needed for treatment areas and various clinics within CancerCare and the Health Sciences Centre
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

Special Events

Volunteers raise awareness and/or funds for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. These are generally evening and weekend positions. Activities could include:
  • Selling raffle tickets and merchandise
  • Event registration and pledge collections
  • Assist at golf tournaments, fundraising dinners, walks and runs
