Highlights - Reimagining Care: Community Oncology Leading the Way

The Community Cancer Care Educational Conference is an annual multidisciplinary event that brings together nurses, Family Physicians in Oncology (FPOs), pharmacy staff, managers, Psychosocial Clinicians, and other health professionals from across Manitoba. The 2017 Conference was co-hosted by Prairie Mountain Health and was generously supported by the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, in addition to industry sponsorship.

247 participants registered, representing all Manitoba Health Regions and Community or Regional Cancer Programs (CCPs). Several disciplines took advantage of the rare opportunity to meet in person, including the inaugural meeting of the Manitoba Dietitian Network and provincial meetings for Surgical Leads in Oncology, CCP Managers, Supportive Care practitioners, and our highest FPO lunch and learn attendance to date. 19 participants also attended the Multiple Myeloma Train the Trainer workshop on Saturday.

Thursday afternoon focused on the ways Cancer is Different for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs). This workshop combined academic presentations, patient experiences, interactive activities, and audience participation to engage delegates and strengthen practical skills. The workshop promoted CCMB's new AYA transitions booklet and Young Adult Cancer Canada's new Winnipeg Localife group, which is currently recruiting leaders.

Thanks to all participants who attended despite challenging weather and traffic conditions, and we look forward to seeing you 20-21 September 2018 for the 40th anniversary celebration!
