Health Educator
Screening Programs

The Health Educator will be responsible for improving cancer screening rates in Manitoba by developing, implementing, and evaluating health education and promotion strategies. Responsibilities include developing materials and resources for the public and health care professionals, implementing and evaluating health promotion and communications strategies, performing community outreach, collaborating with health care professionals and community partners, and staying up-to-date on the latest research and trends in health education. This role works in collaboration with screening managers, as well as other departments at CancerCare Manitoba, to set education priorities for the public and health care professionals.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • University degree in a discipline relevant to health promotion, public health education, health care, adult education, or communications/public relations. Equivalent experience/education may be considered
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in health promotion/education or related activities within a health care environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff, including training and performance management
  • Experience with managing budgets
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate messages in a professional and engaging manner to a variety of target audiences
  • Must work independently, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of desktop publishing programs (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and MS Office applications
  • Occasional travel and on-call/weekend/evening work is required


Preferred:
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans and materials for lay and for diverse audience groups
  • Experience in community development and in the design and delivery of programs
  • Knowledge of cancer screening, public/population health, and community mobilization
  • Experience working with under-served populations
  • Presentation and public speaking experience
  • Holds a valid drivers' license and has access to a personal vehicle


Asset:
  • Bilingual (French/English) written and verbal skills
  • Knowledge of web-based design/publishing tools, such as Canva, Piktochart, and GoAnimate
  • Good knowledge of and experience with website management
